Opportunity for Technical Committee Members to NFPA
Posted on Thursday, April 11, 2013 @ 10:16:16 MDT by samsadmin

Announcement From: Sandra Stanek (

I am the staff liaison for NFPA 115 Laser Fire Protection. We are looking for new technical committee members to join out technical committee on Laser Fire Protection. Would you please post a general email to all members with the following information:

The NFPA is seeking public input on the next revision of NFPA 115 and is also seeking new technical committee members. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) develops, publishes and disseminates more than 300 consensus codes and standards intended to minimize the effects of fire and other risks. NFPA 115 provides minimum fire protection requirements for the design, manufacture, installation, and use of lasers and associated equipment. NFPA standards are generally revised every 3-5 years. The NFPA Technical Committee on Laser Fire Protection will soon be in its revision cycle for the 2015 edition.

Revisions take place over a two year period with committee members from various interest groups such as document users, enforcers, manufacturers, insurers and special experts.

NFPA 115 is available for viewing free of charge on the document information page at when you set up a free on line account with NFPA. There are several tabs that are located on the document information page. The first tab, “Document Information”, provides the scope of the document as well as the latest read-only version of the standard. The tab, “Next Edition” is where you can submit public input on line. If you feel there are changes or clarifications that should be made to the document, you can go directly to that section of the document, make the suggested changes and then provide a reason for this recommended change. The technical committee must consider each public input received in their first draft meeting. NFPA is accepting public input until November 29, 2013 for the next revision of the document. All public input for the upcoming revision of NFPA 115 must be received by this date.

If you are interested in applying to the technical committee you can open the “Technical Committee” tab to apply on line. You do not have to be a committee member or an NFPA member to be involved in the NFPA revision process. You may request to join a task group or attend an NFPA committee meetings. We do ask that you let us know if you plan to attend a meeting to insure that we have sufficient seating. If you are interested in becoming a Technical Committee member or want to participate in a meeting or have any other questions on the upcoming revision please contact Sandra Stanek (
